Acne Treatment

Newvue Plastic Surgery | Acne Treatment, Bellevue, WA / Seattle, WA

Overview

Acne affects millions of teens and adults. It can be embarrassing and painful, and it can leave permanent scars. Pharmaceutical acne treatments can be effective, but they are often harsh and can come with serious side effects. We offer a variety of alternative treatments that can help reduce acne and prevent future breakouts. We also have a variety of non-surgical procedures to reduce or remove acne scars to help your skin look and feel smoother and healthier. Our acne treatments are tailored to the unique needs of each patient and often involve a combination of therapies.

Reducing and Preventing Active Acne

We take a 3-pronged approach to treating acne:

  1. Reduce the severity of existing acne.
  2. Kill the bacteria that cause acne
  3. Shrink the sebaceous glands which produce overly-oily skin

Antibiotics: topical and/or oral antibiotics are an important step in killing the bacteria that cause acne.

Cleansing: deep cleansing is the first step in any treatment. CLENZIderm M.D.™ Acne Therapeutic Systems from Obagi is used to treat and prevent acne at its root; and most recently the Rosaclear™ System developed specially to reduce the redness and blemishes associated with acne or rosacea.

Hydrafacial Microdermabrasion: This fairly painless procedure helps remove dead or damaged skin cells from the outermost layer of skin. We perform a deep exfoliation of the skin with a mildly abrasive substance and use gentle suction to help remove the unwanted cells.

Chemical Peel: A chemical peel uses a customized solution of acids that penetrates into the skin to help dead and damaged cells slough off and make way for new, healthy cells. We use a variety of peels to help accomplish this depending on the severity of your acne.

Levulan IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (also known as IPL or Photorejuvenation) is a safe, light-based therapy used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including acne. The light is pulsed on the skin, where it selectively destroys damaged cells and irregular pigments.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing: CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatments are non-ablative, meaning they do not cause damage to the surface of the skin. Instead they target the area beneath the surface to remove the scar tissue that causes the pits and depressions typical of acne scars. CO2 Laser Resurfacing uses carefully targeted bursts of laser energy to cause tiny wounds called micro-thermal zones beneath the surface of the skin which actually stimulate your body’s natural healing process, promoting the development of new, healthier skin cells and improving skin’s overall tone and texture.

Reducing or Removing Acne Scarring

Our approach to treating acne scars is determined by the depth and severity of the scarring s well as the patient’s goals. It usually involves a combination of topical treatments and laser resurfacing to help your body expunge damaged skin cells and replace them with healthy cells.
